When to use: Use between salon visits to permanently cover up to 1" of gray root regrowth. Choose within one shade of your natural hair color.
How to use: For best gray coverage, start with clean dry hair. Put on gloves. Squeeze ½ tube of hair color into disposable bowl. Tightly screw the cap back on and save for next use. Add 1 packette of developer color activator to bowl and mix thoroughly using the applicator brush. Apply mixture to your noticeable gray areas first, usually the hairline and part line. Apply product generously. Use the tip end of the applicator brush to part the hair in ¼”- ½” sections and continue to apply until the desired areas are completely saturated. Put processing cap on and set timer for 45 minutes. Keep the color on an additional 5-15 minutes for resistant gray hair. Using lukewarm water, rinse out color until water runs clear and follow with dpHUE Color Fresh Shampoo and Conditioner.
Tips from Justin: Focus on your hairline and part line! Don’t attempt to color roots in the back of your head or hard to reach places – no one else can see those either!

How do I select my shade?
Choose the shade closest to your current color. Use the images associated with each shade to help you make your selection. dpHUE Root Touch-Up Kits are not intended for all-over hair color, but rather a permanent way to tackle roots between salon visits. So, this is not the time to experiment with other shades and colors; stick with your color and say seeya to gray.
Will the Root Touch Up Kit Lighten my hair?
The Root Touch Up Kit is not meant to lighten hair although permanent hair color can cause hair lightening or darkening. For best results, select a shade within one shade of your natural color. Tip: if between two colors, choose the lighter shade.
Why do I leave Root Touch-Up Kit on my hair for 45 minutes?
Unlike many other quick-fix root touch-up kits, dpHUE’s formula is permanent and designed to give you complete gray coverage. Period. To allow the product to fully absorb into the hair’s follicle, 45 minutes is recommended. Just the right amount of time to make it work right...and to put your feet up and say hi to us on Instagram.
Can Root Touch-Up Kit be used for all-over hair color?
We love that you love the color, but we recommend using it just on your roots...so you can keep color fresh (and grays at bay!) between salon visits.
Can I save the leftover color in the bowl for another use?
You cannot keep color once it's mixed. After being exposed to air for a period of time it will not work. Each Root Touch-Up Kit comes with all you need for two root and hairline touchups, so best to only use 1/2 of the color each time you need it and preserve the rest in the original tube. Attempting to keep color in the bowl could compromise the formula and the results, so we don’t recommend it.
When I’m ready to apply my second application, the color of the product appears to have changed within the tube. Will it still work the same way?
It is normal to see a small amount of crème get darker as it can oxidize when it’s in contact with air. Squeeze the tube gently to remove the darker portion of the crème before using the rest of the tube and mixing the developer. The product should perform exactly the same way as the first time you used it.
Is there ammonia in the Root Touch-Up Kit?
There is a very low amount of ammonia which is necessary to achieve the best results. Our hair color is made in Italy and the formula is both gentle and conditioning. BTW, ammonia substitutes are not necessarily gentler.
What should I wear when I color my hair?
Touching up roots is easier than you think. If you can touch your own head, you can color your own roots. That said, accidents can happen to the handiest of us. We suggest wearing the #HUECREW coloring t-shirt when applying your color. Its wide neck makes it easy to slip on and off and if you happen to stain it with color, its dark enough that it won't show. Otherwise, pick something you don't mind staining and that you don't have to pull over your head. Our color is a rich creme and won't drip when applied.
What is the difference between dpHUE Root Touch-Up Kit and other touch-up kits?
Many other Root Touch-Up kits, especially in drug stores, offer semi-permanent quick fixes. Our color, on the other hand, is permanent and lasts much longer. Also, it is designed by professional colorists who understand hair color and how to best cover gray roots in a way that looks natural, and still cares for your hair.
Is the color permanent?
Yes. But just like your salon color, it will fade gradually over time. Hair grows 1/4" per month so the new growth always needs to be covered.
Do I need to actually mix the color?
The only mixing required is to simply stir together the color and the developer. Voilà!
When should I use my Root Touch-Up Kit?
Whenever those grays try to rule your life! Everyone’s “gray creep” is different, but most people touch up roots every 3-4 weeks.
